OFFICE OF ACADEMIC ENGAGEMENT

OVERVIEW

The Office of Academic Engagement (OAE) is a reporting unit of the Office of the Provost, developed to support student engagement in learning and highly impactful experiences at Washington State University. OAE programs aim to be a launchpad for students to engage with faculty, academic offices, and other resources with the ultimate goal of developing students who are able to persist and complete their degree in a timely manner and are well prepared for life after graduation. OAE is a collaborative effort of students, staff and faculty who work to achieve these objectives in three ways:

  • By being a clearinghouse of available engagement opportunities for undergraduates and working to develop the means by which all Cougs may participate in experiences such as study abroad, internships, research or creative work with a faculty mentor, or leadership opportunities.
  • By developing sustainable projects that identify students that are less likely to be involved, or have a lack of opportunity for involvement, in WSU’s transformational educational experiences and working to overcome barriers and foster engagement in the programs, services and resources of the institution. These projects serve as models for bringing best practices, effective interventions to scale and fostering program design that incorporates student involvement in an inclusive campus environment, rather than provided services in isolation by one office or entity.
  • By conducting research on student engagement and success that drives our work and informs institutional partners in the development of student support and resources.

Since 2015, OAE has secured over $23.5M in external funding for WSU students, has become a primary collaborator and partner for student organizations, colleges, faculty, and Student Affairs, and is a catalyst for student success innovation.
